Position: Community Conservation Planner

The Pehdzo Got’ine Gots’e´ Nákedi (Sahtu Renewable Resources Board – SRRB) is seeking an individual to join our small but dynamic team. The SRRB is mandated to address objectives of the Sahtu Dene and Metis Comprehensive Land Claim Agreement related to wildlife, habitat and harvesting. We work closely with local harvesting committees (Pehdzo Got’ine - Renewable Resources Councils) in the five communities of the Sahtu Region, Northwest Territories, and with regional forums including the Nę K’ǝ Dene Ts'ı̨lı̨ (Living On the Land) Forum and Sahtu Youth Network. The SRRB has adopted an innovative cross-cultural and decolonizing approach, and supports training of Sahtu beneficiaries.
Salary will be based on qualifications. The positions are located in the beautiful community of Tulit’a, “Where The Rivers Meet.”
This position will support community-driven conservation planning initiatives. Duties will include coordination and facilitation of collaborative planning, engagement, and evaluation processes; support for plan implementation; preparation of proposals, reports, planning documents, correspondence, and public communication materials; training local community conservation planning facilitators; and mentoring SRRB interns.
Candidates for either position should demonstrate training and experience in the following areas:
- Minimum of Master’s Degree in a field relevant to the position, or equivalent experience
- Experience working with community organizations in cross-cultural contexts
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Well-organized, able to plan and work independently and in teams
- Sound understanding of environmental and indigenous issues in the North
- Experience in mentoring, education or training is an asset
- Knowledge of the Sahtu Region, the Sahtu Dene and Metis Comprehensive Land Claim Agreement, and North Slavey language is an asset
